Dental Cleaning and Regular Checkups

Regular checkups are important to properly maintain your oral as well as general health. During a regular checkup visit, the dentist and hygienist will:

  • Look for signs of tooth decay or cavities

  • Inspect your teeth and gums for gingivitis or periodontal (gum) disease

  • Check in and around your mouth for problems you may not necessarily see or feel

  • Provide a gentle, thorough cleaning and oral hygiene instructions for home

Visiting the dentist at least every six months allows you the chance to talk with the doctor about any questions or concenrs you may have about your oral health. Checkups are also a good way to find out about any new treatments that can benefit your smile.

Choosing the Right At Home Dental Products

From toothbrushes and toothpastes, to floss, or water picks, or mouthwash, you will want to choose the right dental products to maintain a healthy smile. Try to look for toothpastes or toothbrushes that have been approved by the ADA (American Dental Association). And while flossing is the conventional way to get between your teeth to clean, there are many other ways to do mechanical interdental (between teeth) cleaning. Ask the dentist or hygienist about water picks, toothpicks, proxy brushes, stimudents and more ways to be able to get the job done. The point is to use at least one of these methods daily in addition to brushing twice per day. We are also big fans of Sonicare electric toothbrushes.
